Africa’s economic transformation lies in the ability to learn, unlearn, and relearn from the challenges that persist and opportunities presented. This process imust be both integrative and intentional and also socially inclusive. This calls for continuously studying the root causes of Africa’s problems through research, policy dialogue and enlightenment of the citizens, especially the more vulnerable ones who have been distanced from the heart of governance - the poor, majority of low income women and unpaid carers, the youth and aged who are either shut out of objective discourses by virtue of the culture of ageism, the rural dwellers who are locationally disadvantaged and even the mentally and physiologically challenged. Liberating Africans to unleash untapped economic and human resources requires Africans to be all hands on (together) in addressing the challenges and tapping into opportunities.
GTEEP works to meet these needs through research (learning and applying knowledge), public outreach, and continuous engagement with policymakers to reshape economic choices based on proven success factors, with due attention to the needs of different groups of citizens.

Bola Akanji

Prof Bola Akanji is a distinguished economist and policy researcher with over 25 years of experience in international trade policy, African economic integration, and development economics. As the founder and Executive Director of GTEEP, she leads the organization’s mission to promote evidence-driven, socially inclusive policy across Africa. A PhD holder from the University of Ibadan, she has published extensively on the AfCFTA, ECOWAS trade protocols, and the gender dimensions of trade policy.

Geske Dijkistra

Geske Dijkstra is an Emeritus Professor of “Governance and Global Development” at Erasmus University Rotterdam, where she has spent over 26 years in teaching, research, and advisory roles. As a development economist with nearly 30 years of experience, her expertise spans international development, global governance, aid effectiveness, and the impact of public policies on economic growth and poverty reduction. Her research primarily focuses on Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America.
